Jan Amator joined the Department of Education in August, 2004, as the Education Program Specialist coordinating Career Ladder and National Board of Professional Teacher Standards subsidy program. She became the Deputy Associate Superintendent for the Highly Qualified Professionals Unit in March, 2005. Jan comes from Dysart Unified School District where she spent 27 years as a classroom teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Arizona State University, a Masters of Arts from Northern Arizona University, and received her National Board Certification in Adolescent/Young Adult Social Studies/History in 2002. She was a finalist for Arizona Teacher of the Year in 1990 and served as an Ambassador for Excellence in Education for two years. She has been an adjunct professor for Estrella Mountain Community College and Northern Arizona University. She has presented on topics ranging from Total Quality Management to Meeting the Needs of At-Risk Students at both the state and national levels. She is dedicated to the reality that the quality of the teacher in the classroom is the most significant factor in student achievement. |
