Debra Duvall Biography
 

Superintendent
Mesa Unified School District, No. 4

Dr. Debra Duvall is the superintendent of Mesa School District in Mesa, Arizona. The district is Arizona’s largest, with a current enrollment of over 74,500 students. Mesa Schools is made up of 58 elementary, 13 junior high, and 6 senior high schools. Mesa also provides 12 alternative programs serving students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Mesa Schools employs over 10,000 full and part-time people and is the 17th largest employer in Arizona.

Dr. Duvall rejoined Mesa Schools in July 1987. Before being named Superintendent, Dr. Duvall was Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, and Associate Superintendent of Mesa Public Schools.

Deb began her career as a classroom teacher in Los Angeles and also taught in Mesa. During the past 37 years, she has held a variety of administrative positions in Virginia and North Carolina, including elementary principal and assistant superintendent in Wake County, Raleigh North Carolina.

Some of Deb's Mesa community activities included serving on the Downtown Development Board, Mesa Speaks Board of Governors, Crime Prevention Advisory Board, and the City of Mesa Planning and Zoning Commission. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Mesa Family YMCA, Prehab of Arizona, and the Mesa United Way. She also serves as the Chairperson on the Commission on Excellence for Mesa Community College and is on the Advisory Board for Arizona State University East. Dr. Duvall is a member of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and a Mesa Economic Development Advisory Board member. Also, she is a member of Mesa Rotary. Deb was selected as Mesa Woman of the Year in 1997 and received the Mesa Spirit of Unity Award in 2000. She also received the ASA Distinguished Superintendent of the Year in 2003 and the Superintendent of the Year from AAHPERD in 2001.

Debra is married and has a son.
