Fun Facts
Time flies when you are having fun ….or at least that’s how the saying goes. From the looks of how things were 100 years ago, we’ve been having a LOT of fun!
100 years ago……….
- Only 14% of households had a bathtub.
- The average lifespan was 47 years.
- Only 8% of households had a telephone, and a three-minute call from New York to Denver cost $11.
- There were 8,000 cars, only 144 miles of paved road in the entire country and the maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
- Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa, and Mississippi were all more populated than California.
- The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents per hour, and the average American citizen earned approximately $200 to $400 a year.
- Ninety-five percent of births took place at home.
- The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was 30.
- Toothpaste was invented. Before that, people used ground up chalk or charcoal, lemon juice, or ashes to clean their teeth.
- Sugar cost 4 cents a pound and eggs were 14 cents a dozen.
