Four Cornerstones of Reform

Economic Competitiveness

In early 2011, Governor Jan Brewer signed into law The Arizona Competitiveness Package.  This legislation includes a mix of broad tax reforms and targeted business incentives designed to encourage expansion among existing Arizona companies, while establishing Arizona as an attractive location for businesses worldwide. The Package is divided into five separate parts:

Science and Technology

  • Arizona is pushing to become a pioneer in the world of cutting-edge science, technology and innovation. These areas have rich possibility for job growth and figure to play a key role in Arizona’s future economy.

Aerospace and Defense

  • The Arizona aerospace and defense industry has grown out of several competitive advantages embedded in the state’s natural features. Arizona’s desert climate, terrain, and open spaces have enabled the state’s large military installations to focus on aviation and aerospace. As a result, Arizona has developed a strong advantage in the defense technology area, especially in guided missiles and subsystems, defense missile and space systems, rotary wing aircraft manufacturing, and other engineering and technical services.

Small Business and Entrepreneurship

  • Small businesses are key drivers of sustainable economic development and innovation. They often play a critical role in the functioning of other, larger firms – serving as key suppliers, support providers and independent consultants. Governor Brewer is committed to a restrained and efficient government that allows Arizona’s entrepreneurial spirit to thrive.

Renewable Energy

  • Everyone knows Arizona is the Solar King, but the State also is home to a growing renewable-energy field in the areas of water, wind, biomass and geothermal. Further development of these technologies will yield dividends for both our economy and energy independence.

Business Retention and Expansion

  • Sustainable economic growth is about more than attracting the world’s best employers. It’s about retaining and expanding the employers we’ve already got. Governor Brewer is tuned-in to the needs of Arizona employers and is doing everything she can to create an environment that is optimal for them to succeed.
