Securing Our Border

Governor Brewer believes that a secure border is critical to the safety and wellbeing of our citizens and the long-term health of our economy. Until the border is secured, she will remain one of the nation’s loudest advocates for the federal government to do its job.

National Guard troops are just one part of an effective border-security strategy.

For true border security to be realized:

  • Aviation support is critical to the effort on the ground – especially given the rugged nature of much of Arizona’s border terrain.
  • The border fence needs to be completed, reinforced and maintained.
  • The United States must be prepared to detain, prosecute and then incarcerate convicted violators of United States laws.

    • The single most significant factor behind the passage of SB 1070 and HB 2162 was the frustration of the Arizona public regarding the failure of the federal government to effectively address the problem of illegal immigration.

      For those of us in Arizona, anger grew with increasing awareness of the spillover violence, increased kidnappings, spread of drop houses in neighborhoods and other scourges of drug-and human-trafficking.

      Governor Brewer is 100% committed to fair and just enforcement of the new Arizona law.  She has made it clear that civil rights will not be compromised.

      Instead of suing Arizona and thwarting efforts by Arizona law enforcement to address illegal immigration, the federal government should reassure Arizona (and other states) that securing the border and enforcing federal immigration laws is a priority.
