Keeping Arizonans Healthy
Governor Napolitano is committed to strengthening health care in Arizona by developing a health care workforce that can meet the needs of a growing population, expanding access to health insurance and improving quality of care.
To keep Arizonans healthy, Governor Napolitano has:
- Created the CoppeRx Card, one of the nation’s first free prescription drug discount cards, which has saved Arizonans more than $18.2 million to date.
- Secured $12 million, the largest federal grant in the country, to launch a Web based electronic health records system to provide real time information to doctors, to reduce medical errors, redundant testing, and administrative costs, and increase coordination of care for chronic diseases and overall patient-centered care.
- Spearheaded the creation of a statewide 2-1-1 system to assist in the dissemination of vital public safety and health information.
- Directing more than $17 million to counties and community organizations in FY2008 for initiatives related to prevention, cessation and secondhand smoke.
- Expanded Arizona’s bioscience corridor by opening a new pathogen genomics and biodefense research facility, TGen North, in Flagstaff.
- Repealed the gag rule, which prohibited the State of Arizona from contracting with schools to give families information about health care for their children.
