| At the invitation of Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Governor Jan Brewer and a business delegation including representatives from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Arizona Tech Council and other local business leaders, visited Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, and Hong Kong.
The purpose of this visit was to strengthen relationships with government and corporate leaders that will benefit Arizona. At present, China is the third trading partner for the state of Arizona. Export to China by the state of Arizona increased by 26% in 2010 to more than $1 billion. Over 5,400 businesses in the state export to China. In the coming year, China will import $8 trillion in goods from other nations, and this mission was focused on ensuring Arizona businesses profit.
The Arizona delegation met with Honeywell, Intel and Suntech Power to learn about the Chinese market, and to be introduced to the companies' supply chains during investment seminars held in Shanghai and Beijing. Arizona's future is in the growth of high-tech sector trade, and there is significant opportunity for expansion of Chineses companies into Arizona, which will create hundreds of quality jobs.
Governor Brewer's mission further develops cooperation between China and Arizona after the visit of Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee in 2009. |
